To relocate a person from their community, from the environment that they lived in often for several decades prior, in order to locate them in a space that can accommodate increasing levels of care as one ages is an increasingly complex issue in China.

Social and economic norms from previous generations, where cohabitation of several generations provided a safety net for the old and care needy, is slowly disappearing with the modernisation and increasing migration of people from rural to city, from the home to the office.

A solution for aged care in modern China must seeks to create a feeling of home, of community, co-living and connection between occupants and also the wider community. The program of Changzhou Home is intended to replicate the complex social and demographic structures of people’s lives within a care environment. Encouraging different function groups, age groups and diverse modes of occupation throughout the project creates a sense of ownership, belonging and home.

DTH Mensa

DTH Mensa is a multi function building connecting existing buildings on a large hospital site inn Nanjing China. The project firstly rationalizes and connects different levels through a series of ramped platforms to allow continuous movement, to connect a loop from building to building. The project houses cafeteria, office and meeting spaces and this diverse program is linked together by s single loaded corridor.

The facade design is a low cost shading strategy that allows the use of a simple, inexpensive glass curtain wall system combines with a shading system utilising PTFE membranes in a stepped grid pattern which relates back to the other facade designs of adjacent buildings on site, unifying the scheme identity.

Rehabilitation Center

In a rehabilitation clinic, the focus is placed on people and care for people more-so than in a general hospital. The architecture must serve the function very directly. Access to the natural environment is fundamental for patients healing process. The project is divided into 2 distinct function areas, treatment and hospitalization. Patients in rehabilitation hospitals will likely stay for a prolonged period of time and require constant movement between treatment areas and inpatient rooms.

To counter the possible feeling of the overly clinical or overlay mechanical, the interior corridors and materials are warm and open, removing the long, narrow corridor, in its place the angular, more playful medical street.

SKY Health Center

Su Kang Yang Health Center, SKY, is a high-end health check-up center in Suzhou, China. The project features high end imaging suite of MRI, DR, CT and Mammography along with full check-up and diagnostic examination rooms. The center is divided into both general patient and VIP patient flows, with the VIP patient experience being totally separated from the general patient flow whilst still allowing for resource sharing, medical technology and staffing.

The project was realised inside an existing commercial building which provided numerous challenges for such a high specification healthcare build. Two grand spiral stairs connect the building vertically allowing patient floors to be manages easily between floors without making people wait for lift arrivals.

As the first of potential many of such centers around the country there was a strong focus on ensuring a strong brand identity in the design.

ModHomes Model 3

The Model 3 is a flat roofed large, luxury modern home made from the ModHomes construction system. Cross Laminated Timber forms both structure and skin, when combined with heavy natural insulation this creates a very high performance building envelope suitable for all climates. Wide balconies and fenestration link exterior with interior and large panel sizes create open interior plans the feel luxurious and open.

ModHomes Model 4

A series of 2 and 3 floor cross laminated timber hosing designs, intended to be precision manufactured in factory, delivered and assembled as a kit of minimal parts to form a very high end, high performance and sustainable alternative to traditional housing typologies. Model 2 ranges from 70-230m2 and meets the highest local environmental and building performance standards in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

B-Active Gym

Industrial design style and har wearing materials unite together to create an environment that is easy for users to take ownership of and to feel comfortable and at home while the work out. Exposed ceilings and services create variation in the ceiling and allow the ceiling height to be kept as high as possible for a feeling of airiness and ventilation. Green walls complete the natural open aesthetic.

Materials, patterns and textures reflect the local culture and history of the city of Xian, the home of the terracotta warriors. Bright Stars

Bright Stars training centre is a re-use of a former office building. The focus of the design was to offer a large multifunctional communal space in addition to classroom spaces. A large unifying stair element links the lower and upper floors and offers an informal aurditorium type space adjacent to the play area.
