At the core of the project is the idea of how to transition a building from public to private, from outpatient to inpatient, form city to sea. The dichotomous nature of the programmatic requirements is represented in the architectural form, the flip, which allows the design to cater for the opposing requirements of the brief. In terms of medical function, the core of the project houses all heavy medical functions and doctor pool, surrounding these areas are outpatient functions such as clinic and examination rooms, the outer perimeter layer is the hospital living room, waiting areas, main medical street and other public functions. This allows all patients to have a connection with the landscape as they move through the project whilst making the design as efficient as possible in operational terms.
