Full interior design package from initial client meetings to schematic and detail design and construction documentation. The project is primarily financed by a very large TCM conglomerate and the client wished for elements of traditional Chinese architecture to be reflected in the design. To avoid a design pastiche of pseudo traditional elements, the design makes very subtle referencing to traditional architectural forms through the representation of the traditional timber frame buildings of the region, abstracted to form a high tech version of this concept.
The design focuses on achieving a feeling of calmness and softness in material selection and lighting. There are no point light sources used in any patient areas, diffuse lighting is used throughout and wide aperture lights are used to ensure an even lighting fill, to reduce glare and to create a softness to the interior. A prominent white frame element flows through the main public spaces, creating an indication of location through material and is also utilised as a signage locator.
The project design period was very condensed, less than 6 months from beginning to completion of detail design. The interior design was used as a period of optimization for the architecture design which lead to a lot of improvement and increase in efficiency in the architectural and construction realisation.
All details, schedules of materials, fixtures and fittings, cost controls and project supervision were included in the project scope. The adjustment period of design and schedules continued during the construction process as part of a continually evolving set of design documents.
